Abstract

The new urban planning system in Iran has encountered some problems and issues such as high population density, inadequate attention to city design standards, high density of buildings, and other problems that affect citizens' behaviors. The present study aimed to examine the effects of urban land use density on aggressive behaviors in one of the new urban planning spaces, namely Sahand New Town, using a descriptive-survey (correlation) method. The statistical population is all residents of Sahand, of which 400 were selected as the sample size based on the Morgan table with the convenience sampling method. The research questionnaire was researcher-made and its validity and reliability were verified. The research hypotheses were analyzed by the Wilcoxon and Kendall's tau-b tests. We found that equal distribution of urban services and facilities with an average of (87.45), citizen responsibility (84.32), laws and judicial guidelines in urban management (83.54), compatibility, fit, desirability and suitable proximity in urban uses (residential, commercial and administrative-service) (81.56), and the social control and supervision (81.35) had the highest to the lowest effect on reducing aggressive behaviors in the new urban planning system (Sahand New Town). The indicators of population density and urban use density showed a significant relationship with aggressive behaviors (R=0.158).
